Market Recap
The U.S. equity markets were generally higher, but it was a tough week for the overseas and parts of the commodity markets. A move by the Chinese authorities to devalue their currency surprised everyone. And volatility can always been exaggerated during the listless summer seasons. For the week the S&P gained +0.7% while small-cap equities were up +0.5%. Developed international stocks were down -0.9%, though, with Germany and France losing -4.4% and -3.9% respectively. The emerging world also underperformed with a -0.9% loss. Brazil was down -2.2%....

Market Recap
Equities bounced back from last week’s selling with the S&P advancing +1.2% while the international EAFE index added +1.4%. Emerging equities continue to underperform with China pulling returns lower. Domestic Chinese stocks lost -7.9% while shares traded in Hong Kong were clipped for -3.0%....

Market Recap
The equity and commodity markets were broadly lower this week with losses across the board. It is tough to pin the declines on any one thing. Certainly the selling in the commodity markets unnerved investors as it might signal a global slump and a renewal of the deflation fears. And while earnings growth has been decent, sales are coming in soft. For the week the S&P gave up -2.2% while small-cap stocks were off -3.2%....
