Market Recap
The markets closed on a down note Friday, but the domestic indexes were basically unchanged to up slightly for the week. The S&P dipped just -0.2% while the small-cap Russell 2000 index gained +0.5%. The overseas markets were much more of a mixed bag. The developed EAFE index lost -1.0% with Germany falling -2.1% and Japan -1.1%. Emerging equities on the other hand were up modestly. The index gained +1.0% while Brazil, one of the problem children this year, added +1.9%. The Shanghai market lost -3.2% but Hong Kong equities added +1.9%...

The Power of The Strategic Planning Process
Dilbert has a great way of poking fun at a business topic where there is a vein of truth. Granted, most firms aren’t quite this inept, but the cartoon does a good job at pointing out two significant problems companies face regarding their strategic direction. 1) Do they have a strategic plan that is up to date and relevant and 2) is everyone in the firm aware of the plan and/or have they bought into the firm’s vision?...

Market Recap
It was a tough week for the global equity markets with meaningful selloffs on Tuesday and Friday. For the week the S&P dipped -3.4% while small-cap stocks lost -2.0%. The international markets were also weak, with the EAFE losing -4.7% and emerging equities -4.9%. Chalk the losses up to the same issues that have been with us for the last few weeks – China’s plunging stock market, slowing global growth, and the potential for a Fed rate hike this month....

Market Note
We started Monday morning with the screens full of red, again. Over the last few days the equity and commodity markets have been under pressure, especially in the emerging world. Through Friday the S&P is off -6.8% from its high while the Dow is down -9.4% (including dividends). Emerging equities are off -21.2% and China is off roughly -25%. ...
